Wilson's Notes

The Manticore Heavy Hwacha is a heavy weapon capable of launching barrages of rockets over a very short duration. Each rocket does light explosive and shatter damage. While the rockets fly far(in fact rockets have extra 1 second timelife in addition to what is described in the stats), the Hwacha's high jitter stat makes it more suitable as a method of area denial or scare tactics when used at close range.

Common Tactics

The Manticore Heavy Hwacha can destroy every single component on a ship with one clip, but ability to hull destroy is on mediocre level approximately as on Banshee Light Rocket Carousle.

This gun can be used very effectively on all ships with heavy gun mounts. It is usually accompanied by armor stripping guns like Whirlwind Light Gatling Gun or disable weapons like Dragon Tongue Light Flamethrower, Barking Dog Light Carronade or Hellhound Heavy Twin Carronade (Galleon). Pairing up this gun with piercing weapons allows for kill, while using extra disable weapons allows for continuing to hold control over the enemy in the weapons' long reload time. Disabling the enemy's guns and engines allows for controlling the enemy.

The long reload time of this gun makes wasted shots particularly devastating. Additionally it is very susceptible to disables, both because of its long reload time and because, like all heavy weapons, it has a large hitbox. While weak against Armor the sheer amount of DPC means that it will often find armor breaks, however, it relies on support guns to be an effective kill weapon.

Engineers on ships locked down by a Hwacha can time guns and engines rebuilds to immediately have them available after the Hwacha burst - so called 'prerebuild'. This will provide around a full Hwacha reload time cycle of about 14 seconds to disable the gun, kill the ship or move away into a better position.

Commonly, gun is assigned to the Gunner, but more because of the possibility of using gunners stamina than a wide range of ammunition.

Commonly Used Ammunition

Burst Rounds

  • Very common 'standard' ammunition of gun.
  • Increases AoE shatter radius to 8.25 meters, increases AoE damage, allowing for a greater area of effect to hit components. This effect is especially devastating on larger ships.
  • Rate of fire is reduced to to 7.08 bullets/s, however, due to its quick firing speed and long reload, it is negligible.
  • Maximum range is reduced to 675 meters.

Heavy Clip

  • Much less commonly used ammunition for specific situations.
  • Reduces projectile spread, making mid-range volleys more effective.
  • Decreases rate of fire to 6.66 bullets/s.

Balance Update - May 11 - 2020

  • Base maximum range is reduced to 750 meters (from 1440), to solve a far-fetched problem with the automatic formation of a description of the weapon in the game, assigning it to a "Very Long Range".Probably will affect a lot of use a Burst Rounds with current stats(-50% shell lifetime).
