Airships ‣ Components

An airship consists of multiple components working together to allow it's combat functionality and mobility. Components can be damaged by terrain or enemy airships, and can be repaired or rebuilt by corresponding repair tools on-board.

Component Types

There are 5 types of main groups for components, with some splitting into sub-categories. Each component type is responsible for different attributes of the ship. Each component posses a unique damage type multiplier, chart can be found here. Listed here are the primary types of components:

Helm

Helm

The Helm of a Pyramidion.

Designated by a steering wheel icon, the Helm of an airship serves as the controls for the ship. The aircraft may only be controlled by the player at the helm, and most helm tools may only be used while controlling the airship. The Helm of an airship is the only part that cannot be damaged or broken by enemy fire.

Weapon Mount (light / heavy)

Designated by a cannon icon, an airship's Weapon Mounts are where the Weapons are placed and by extension where the crewmen take control of them. Currently, there are two types of weapon mounts- light weapon mounts and heavy weapon mounts. These in turn determine the variety of weapons that may be placed at that location while editing the ship layout. If a weapon mount breaks, that weapon cannot be used until it is rebuilt.

Engine (light / heavy)

Marked by a propeller icon, the engines provide mobility for the airship. Engines come in 2 varieties: Light and heavy. Heavy engines have more health and provide greater thrust, but take longer to rebuild. When an engine is damaged or broken, the airship's forward/backward acceleration will be impaired. When a side engine is damaged or broken the airship's turning speed will be reduced. If all engines are broken, the airship will be unable to move.

Balloon

Marked by a zeppelin icon, the Balloon allows the airship to stay in the air. While functioning, the balloon allows a captain to ascend or descend with the airship; if broken, the airship will be unable to ascend, and unless the balloon is rebuilt the craft will steadily decrease in altitude until it begins to scrape the ground, resulting in potentially-lethal hull damage.

Hull and Armor

Displayed as a bar indicator positioned on the bottom right corner, the hull of the ship displays the ship's damage level and cannot be repaired once damaged. In contrast, the armor represent the repairable part of main body of the ship locate somewhere on the ship as repair point and designated by a shield icon. Damage is applied to armor until it is entirely depleted and the armor component breaks; at this point, additional damage is applied directly to the ship's health until the armor is rebuilt. While the ship's armor can be restored with repair tools, damage to the ship's health cannot be mended by any means, and when the ship's health is depleted it is destroyed.

Component Effects

Fire Indicator

A component burning.

Components are subject to various effects, such as fire, fire immunity and broken or damaged states.

As the component's HP stat decreases, its performance takes a hit. Ranging from decreased rate of fire and rotation speed on weapons, to decreased thrust and lift forces being generated by the engines and the balloon correspondingly. As a component breaks, it makes the component unable to operate any longer. For example, a destroyed balloon no longer support the mass of the airship, thus, making it plummet towards the ground.

A broken component's rebuild time is also connected to it's base HP stat and multiplier, read more here.

Component Indicator and Health Bar

Buffed Greased Gatling

A Whirlwind Light Gatling Gun, showing that it is loaded with Greased Rounds and its buff progress and duration remaining.

Each component apart from the hull can be repaired, rebuilt, buffed or extinguished with engineer tools. Once a player comes close enough to a component the indicator with an icon of the component and a health bar below shows up and the engineer tool can be used on that component and if its a gun it can be mounted.

Rebuilding Engine

An engine being rebuilt.

The indicator shows cooldown and current state of component. It turns red when the component is destroyed and displays rebuild progress. Buff progress is displayed as bar on the left side of the indicator. When a component is buffed additionally to the yellow glowing component texture a small flash icon is shown above the indicator. Also a bar for the remaining buff duration is displayed on the right side.

On weapons loaded with non-default ammunition, the ammo type is shown instead of the gun icon.

Cooldown Indicator

A balloon on cooldown.

While a component is burning the component indicator alternates between the default icon and a fire icon with different amount of flames depending on the amount of fire stacks.

Hull Indicator The team colored hull indicator is displayed all the time on the bottom right of the screen.

Damage Indicators

Damage Indicators

Damage indicators.

If the player is not directly looking at a damaged component, an indicator of the component's HP and status is displayed at the sides of the screen. With components on fire alternating between fire indicators (a single flame for low fire amount, and 3 flames for high fire amounts.) and destroyed components tinted red.
